Dr. Graffeo’s Adieu as JC’s Forever Faculty Moderator .
The May 20th JC is my last as Faculty Moderator and when looking back, my JC moderator activities predate my gmail account (2005) so, let’s say it has been at least 20 years. Whoa!
I’d like to think that we always tried to keep it topical, interesting and more than anything a fun time to get together outside of the ED. Our best JC decision was to open it to your people and the turnout has been great with lots of opportunities to get to know your families.
This month with the gracious support of EPT, we are able to have a retirement celebration for both our amazing Global Medicine guru Carol McCammon and yours truly who will still dabble in some EM and Undersea Medicine. If you haven't been to The Attic at Waterman's, they claim to have invented the Orange Crush and it is a great spot that we generally can't afford on our JC budget.
When considering topics, we landed on a few. Dr. McCammon with the assistance of Shirley Jones our soon-to-be Global Medicine Fellowship Director, we will discuss their diverse experiences with Global Medicine. Attached is an article that will be presented by Coral Byrns on the complexities of delivering healthcare and humanitarian aid, education and other resources in under-resourced populations.
My long-term interest in wellness, career satisfaction and longevity goes back to my days as a junior faculty member and who'd think that it would take a short video I recently came across of Jerry Seinfield speaking at a David Lynch Foundation Gala on Transcendental Meditation to move the bar on this intriguing approach to self-care. Attached is an article that will be presented by Katherine Schaffer on the potential of teaching TM to trainees. We would love to hear from any of you who practice TM as well as any other approaches you may be willing to share. If you are as intrigued as I was about TM, here is a short video by of the most well known teachers of TM Bob Roth Hope to see you there! Charlie
